Canon AE-1 Owners Manual

I was going through my old camera equipment and found a Canon AE-1 owners manual dating back to around the mid 70's. It is in black and white and in fairly good condition except for a crinkle at the top of the right hand corner of the front page. Anyone know what it might be worth and if it would be worth listing?

Can someone help with a postal collectible?

Hello, all -- I'm hoping someone can give me some guidance about how and where to list a particular item that someone gave my kids a long time ago. It's an envelope that's stamped and dated October 26, 1995 when the Cleveland Indians got into the World Series. The envelope has the Indians mascot and the words Cleveland Indians World Series Station, October 26, 1995, Cleveland, Ohio 44101-9998. There's also a holographic stamp of outer space, with USA 32 in red next to it. I've never listed anything like this before (I usually do cross stitch) and have no idea what it is or what category to list it under. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance!

Vintage Candy Container- FANNY FARMER LAMB PULL TOY HELP PLEASE?

Could anyone help with the possible age of this children's Easter candy container? I know it's pre-1960, but beyond that I haven't a clue as I have not been able to find one sold or any other information on it. I have a feeling it's the only one that survived!!! It came unused in the original box and it is constructed of heavy cardboard and has wooden wheels with a wooden pull knob. It stands 7 in. tall, is 7in. in length and has the nursery rhyme "Mary Had a Little Lamb" written on the front and back. Any help would be wonderful!

W over VW logo...Who the heck is THIS?

Hey everyone, This has officially driven me nuts, so I've come here to ask for help. I have this glass paperweight that has a logo on the bottom that I just cannot figure out what company it belongs to. It looks like it's either a W over another W or a W over VW. I say a book where I picked this up that had the same logo with the company name (something like "Williams and Van Williams") but for the life of me, can't remember what the two names were. ANY help ID'ing the company would be vastly appreciated. TY in advance. Mark

curiosity question about vintage keys

Hi all, I think it's my first time to this board -- mostly this is just a curiosity question for anyone who knows anything about vintage key collecting, so if there is a better discussion board to check out, just let me know. I was curious about a completed auction for a brass barrel key, item # 20031415772 -- could someone shed some light with regard to what made this key so desirable? Also, the use of the word "obsolete" in the title -- I see some sellers using this for similar keys, while others don't. I thought it must be the markings on this key that made it so desirable, which leads me to one more question... What was it used for? Thanks in advance for your help. Kristin

Bronzed Flared Cup -- Solf Boiled Egg Holder?

Link A little over 3 1/2" high. Open part on top is 1 3/4" in diameter. Hollow part at base almost 3". Bronze, I think, tho maybe brass. Leaf engraving on the metal. I remember as a kid eating softboiled eggs, peeled at top from something shaped like this. But those were pottery, not metal. I could be a candle holder, but flared at top like it is?

Anyone know a company called Allite Mfg?

These are called, "Allite Seaoners" and are manufactured by Allite Mfg Company 5732 Duarte St. Los Angeles, CA. Collectibles rules?

My auctions keep getting cancelled by ebay and I can not figure out why. I used to list in "Collectibles > Photographic Images > Contemporary (1940-Now) > Risque" catagory, but my listings kept getting cancelled because of "adult material". Massive Japanese Red Wood Carving Sculpture? Please help!

Hi Everyone! I'm hoping to get more information on this Japanese piece. I believe it to be some sort of wood sculpture or carving. The wood is exceptionally heavy and is red in color. I purchased it from a serviceman who said he brought it over from Japan about 15 years ago. He did not buy it new, so I'm not sure of the age? It measures roughly 16 inches across and 10 inches tall and weighs about 20 pounds. I have no idea how to describe it or what it is called so any information/research sites would be MUCH appreciated. I haven't been able to find anything close on eBay or google, but maybe haven't been using the right keywords. (Sorry about the dust, I haven't had a chance to clean it and the guy I bought it from was using it as a doorstop.) Thanks in advance for your time and expertise! Supertreasures

Something for sectioning grapefruit was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw these, but really believe they are something for the workshop, but I have no idea. Lord of the Rings Game Cards ....... PLEASE Help.

Hi; I tried this on the toys board, but perhaps that's not the right place. I have some Lord of the Rings Game cards and I'm completely lost when it comes to deciding how to list them. I'd like to list them on ebay, but I'm lost in terms of value and organization. Even though there's an indication of the cards (common, uncommon, rare, and premium) in the box I don't know for sure it's correct and I have no idea how to check, nor do I have the time to carefully sift through 3,000 or so cards. There are some smaller cards....... do they have special meaning? Can anyone help or point me to an easy to understand guide as to how to organize these cards?

How do you find value, or a starting bid on something that is rare? I have been doing research for days on two items. I did find the last sale on Ebay for these items happened to be in 2007. Whats up with the shipping charges on cards

Why is it that anyone would charge you a shipping charge on a baseball card or a football card or what ever cards, when they are asking $100 or more for it. It is totally rediculice to do such a thing. Please give me any responces to this that you think are a logical reason. Cards are not that heavy and 9 times out of ten they didn't pay that much for them anyway.

Old Military Hat or Just an old hat???

I'm wondering if any of you know or can identify the insignia or logo on this hat?? I know nothing at all about it and would appreciate opinions. The hat has a a fatigue green color and I think the material would be a very strong cotton. It does have ear flaps that don't show in these pics. I would appreciate your input as to the possible age, value and if it is considered collectible or just a plain old hat. As always, thanks in advance for any help you can be. Dar S.

Where to post erotic statues?

I got these two statues in a box lot at an auction. Luckily there were no kids around as I was digging in the box! OMG! I have 2 wooden statues with no identifying markings. They are rather abstract one is a man with an enormous erection. The statue is 10 1/2" and his erection is 4" and the other is a pair of abstract lovers and she has massively large nipples. I will post a link to them below please bear in mind this is NOT safe for work environment or if kids are around. My question(s) are: can I list these? if so what area? I hate to put them in adults only as I feel that limits exposure but not sure they should go anywhere else! Thanks in advance! Raven Link

Can you help me ID this wooden item found in box w/ Printer's Letters?

Hi, I am trying to ID this piece that was found in a box with Printer's block letters. It is wooden and about 12 inches long. It has H.P.B.Co. pressed into one end. What was it used for? Ideas on age? The last photo is other items that were found with the printer's blocks as well. Are they printer's letters and numbers even though they are not attached to a block? The B is metal and the 3 is wooden. Thanks for any help on where I should start to look or research I need to do!

OLD BORING ? DRILLING TOOL ? Any IDEAS ..

Any ideas what this was used for? It appears as thought the wood stand was made specifically for the tool. Looks like it was for drilling or boring something out...but the angle inside the wood holder is odd because it does not allow much room between the wood frame and the tool. The actual tool not counting the box measures 9 3/4" L. The box/frame measures11" X 7" X 4 3/4" ... we see no makers marks on the tooling. any ideas would be greatly appreciated. What are these Antique Buttons?

Hi I am wondering what you would call these buttons. They are glass and some sort of metal on top? One of them has color, and I don't really understand if that means they were all colored at one time? I don't expect details from any of you as I know button collectors probably know all of this.. However, mostly I am wondering this: What do you call buttons that are rounded like this- like oval football shapes? I know they have shanks, but I don't know what to call this form of button. I've never seen these globular ones before. THANKS!!!!!!!!!

Iron cross very old

First forgive the picture, it is only a scan. I got in my mom's button can today and ran across this. It has been in the can all my life so I am not sure how old it is or where it came from, but it is more than 60 years old. It is 1 and 1/2" long to the bottom of the shank and quite heavy for its size. No one in my family was ever in W.W. II and they immigrated from Germany late in the 1860's to avoid conscription. We looked on line to see something similar but so far no luck. It is just a curiosity. The shank is rounded and smooth--not a screw type thing. Any thoughts? Thanks, George and Jen (yupperlake)

Also there are shiny green teeny tiny crystals one on a fish and two in the shoulder area (these may have been embedded later and not when carved). Stands approx. 6.5 inches tall. No markings that I can find. A bit on the heavy side for its size, very solid. Looks to be one piece of wood. Thanks for any info.

How to list and handle a large number of Historical Papers

Try this again, sorry. Have several questions that I would like opinions on in regards to listing these items. We have picked up the archives from a landmark newstand that is no longer in business, these have been in storage for many years, the last being items stored around 1995. They tended to archive newsmaker headlines for future framing and use. We probably have at least 1000 newspapers and about the same number of magazines. My questions and what I wanted opinions on are what might be the best way to List these. I have debated on listing them in Collectibles>Paper>Newspapers and then in the listings, linking the customer to that category in our eBay store to view them all if that is something of interest. The other thought was to list them in a category which they pertain to, ie.. Sports, Politics, War etc.. But to do this, I would not be able to direct someone back to a single category to view all that we do have. We have just started picturing and recording these into inventory, so if a better idea was thought of or suggested, we could adjust this before we got too far into listing them. This is what I have done currently, notice I provide a link back to our eBay store for the Newspapers or Magazines. 300329198130 The other opinion I was seeking on what might be the best way of packaging these for shipping, are there newspaper sized plastic sleeves or something available from ULINE or elsewhere to place them in? Is this economical to do for the value which they might bring? Of does someone have another method used for shipping that they would suggest. TIA for any suggestions and information in regards to this. Art SC-Liquidations

Help with a large stamp collection.

I recently acquired a very large stamp collection through an auction. There are two very large books full of international stamps, mostly older ones. I am now in the process of listing what countries I have stamps of, but I will not be able to list each individual stamp from each country as there are too many. What would be the best way to list these? Should I sell the it as a whole or break it up? I would think selling it as a whole would be more profitable. I am unsure though how to list each and every stamp and their condition because there are thousands. I want to provide as many pictures as I can but will not be able to take pictures of each and every stamp as well. This is quite confusing for me as I have never dealt with stamps before and know absolutely nothing about them. Please help! Thank you. So far this is the list I have, and this is only from one of the books. I am only on the F's! There is still another book, filled with twice as many stamps. Abyssinia Afrique Equatoriale Francaise Afrique Occidentale Francaise Albania Algeria Angola Argentina Australia Austria Belgian Congo Belgium Berlin Bolivia Brazil Bulgaria Cameroons Canada Cape Verde Ceylon Chile China Colombia Comoro Isl. Congo (Belgian) Costa Rica Crete Croatia Cuba Cyprus Czechoslovakia Denmark Deutsches Reich Dominican Republic East Africa and Uganda Ecuador Eesti Egypt Eire Epirus Espana Estonia Ethiopia Fezzen Finland Formosa I hope this was a good investment. I bought the collection for $60.

How To Become A Chef #5

Hi there, thanks for tuning in. This will be the final guide on the topic "How To Become A Chef"? We hope that the series of guides have been of use to you.

So what do you have to do? Most chefs begin by becoming apprentices for a few years so that they can build up the necessary experience of working in a kitchen. Being a chef often requires that you stand on your feet for hours at a time, and are rarely able to relax for long.

You will begin by helping out kitchen staff in busy restaurants, you will leave with a great deal of experience. You may begin by helping the sous chefs, cooks, and prepare them with their daily work such as cutting vegetables etc This position is called an apprentice. Some apprenticeships do pay you for the chance to train, but it really depends on your location. Trained apprenticeships that are required for your certification, if they do pay, they pay little.

Of course it is worth it because in the end you can qualify for your certification. The experience is invaluable to you when you are looknig for a better and higher paying opportunity. If you can handle the stressful environment of working in a restaurant, then you cna work your way into high chef relatively quick.

The possibilities are endless in the culinary field of work. Once you have gained all of your training you can pretty much choose any job you'd like to have. This job requires that you work to satisfy the public, but it also guarantees you freedom.

Thankyou for reading, this concludes our guides on "How To Become A Chef".

Never Dry Clean your sheets

It is recommended to always wash sheets as opposed to dry cleaning, this avoids dry cleaning chemicals becoming close to your body. Another reason is that you can control exactly what is washed with your sheets at home.

Only use a mild detergent or soap.

It is recommended to only use detergents or soaps that don’t have any whiteners or brighteners, and ones that have very little fragrances and colourings in it. Today, it is easier to find products without a lot of dyes or additives because society is more “green” conscience. Some Brand examples are Eco Store, Planet Ark Aware, and Bosisto’s. Also stay away from Clorox. Oxygen Bleaches are ok to use, however it is best to test it on a corner of the linen just to make sure it won’t take any of the colour out.

It is good practice to dissolve the detergent or soap in the water first.

(Hint: Front loaders are a lot better for your washing. They are more gentle on your washing and they don’t have the agitator in the middle.)

Use Cool Water

It is recommended to use cool – luke warm water, stay away from Hot Water. Hot Water is very harsh on the fibers and hard on the colours, and will shorten the life span of your sheets.

Use a gentle cycle; you don’t need a lot of agitation.

Don’t over fill your washing machine. If you have a king size bed with lots of sheets, pillowcases, etc, it is best to do separate washes. You may do one load with your fitted sheet and flat sheet, and then do another load with the quilt cover and pillow cases. Whatever you do, make sure there is plenty of room so the sheets can move freely in the washing machine.

Line/Air Dry Your Sheets

It is recommended to line/air dry your sheets as opposed to using a dryer. Not only when you line dry, the wind will take most of the crinkles out and may avoid the need to iron the sheets. Avoiding a Dryer will increase the longevity of your sheets. Also did you know, all that lint you see in the dryer, it is the fabric breaking down into little particles. In other words it’s your clothing or your sheets coming apart.

If you don’t have the luxury of line drying your sheets, then dry them in the Dryer on the air tumble mode. You just want to fluff dry them. It is best not to use any heat (once again because it is hard on the fibers and they will break down faster) and just before the sheets are bone dry, take them out and lay them over your bed for the last ½ hour of drying before you put them away in your linen closet.

Unless a person fishes their local area on a near daily bases

Fishing may utilize many different techniques or styles to suit either weather conditions or the movement of fish. A person cannot always be sure of what they might be doing on the day until they have been fishing for a while, it will depend on if the fish are biting and what sort of fish to target. This can be very confusing when selecting fishing gear to purchase, unless, a universal rod and reel to suit different conditions can be found. Another solution would be to have different gear for surf, estuary, boat and jetty, which is fine if keen on fishing a lot.

In Australia we are very fortunate to have so many different fish to catch and we can fish all year round, depending on the biology of the different species. For instance, when they congregate to spawn each year or move in to feed and grow. The seasonal rains wash debris from our creeks and rivers, providing plankton with a feed of microscopic creatures that in turn, break down this organic matter. This begins the food chain cycle over each year as animals such as juvenile prawns feed on the plankton, which in turn provide food for fingerling fish. It’s quite reasonable to respect these environments, and to look after them, which most fishing people do.

Unless a person fishes their local area on a near daily bases, knowledge of the dynamics in the water, beaches and estuaries is difficult to know.Unless there is somebody to ask, you’re on your own with basic decisions such as whether to fish with heavy or light line, a sinker or float, and what sort of bait or even size hook to use.

The fishing tackle market is flooded with smallish fishing equipment for the person who likes to fish recreationally on occasions. Cheap gear can be quite suitable, however the discerning purchaser might wish for something of better quality or with particular features. One such fishing reel is the Tuff Tackle 5000B, stands out from the choices available in the reasonably priced category. It is a serious piece of precision machinery that has much more muscle than its apparent size and lush appearance would suggest. It’s a very versatile little reel and would be fantastic when going on a holiday or fishing trip and not quite sure what sort of fishing might be encountered. I think it can be a worthwhile lasting Birthday or Christmas gift that can be bought with confidence.

I had an awesome morning fishing the first time with mine, christening it with a 700mm long Golden Trevelli, weighing 4.176kg (9.2lbs), as well as a few 700mm longish School Mackerel. The reel never faulted when battling these strong fighting fish, much to my surprise because it is quite a small reel. It handled beautifully, even with a much larger fish, which I had lost on a rocky bomby.

I used P-Line® Floroclear Line, MIST GREEN 20 LB .016" DIA. (.41mm), which is a new colour for 2009 and fantastic if a stealthy approach is favored, it just disappears in the green waters close to shore where I like to fish. I was dubious about putting 20lb line on such a small spool as this thickness line usually “curles”, but not this brand of line. I wouldn’t usually use this size reel as I prefer to have more line capacity; however, I matched it with a short (7') Diawa surf rod (Eliminator EL-SA702MRS) to fish for largish fish from a jetty. I like this setup very much; the rod has a rather large first guide allowing for longer casts, especially with this smaller spooled reel. The line runs out smoothly and easily, even with nothing but a small and very light live bait fish. It’s an unusual looking setup, but I have used it successfully from a boat as well as beach and estuary shores. It is very universal, and quite capable of catching any fish up to 30kg.
The winding action is so smooth on this reel, on par with a Diawa Capricorn, which comes in a similar size, so pleasant to use, except, the Tuff Tackle 5000B seems to have a better drag (8lbs). I had fish running out nearly all of the 130m line capacity, but was able to apply pressure to “turn” the fish, it never faulted, requiring no adjustment while “playing” the fish in.
The 5000B has a dual drag, a secondary one to set as a baitrunner, which is nearly a necessary feature for preventing rod and reel being dragged into the water when unattended or “set” waiting. It is so much more convenient than loosening the main drag, which snaps into play with a wind of the handle or flick of a latch. It is not a common feature on smaller reels and a definite advantage to easier fishing.
To further this little reels versatility, is in its strength and durability as an excellent sport fishing reel. For instance, if loaded up with 30lbs Braided Line (P-Line Spectrex IV), would be an excellent challenge for a 30kg fish. That would be near extreme fishing.
I’m impressed with this reel, suitable for the serious recreational fishing person in us all.
