My wife and I own a Honda Civic Hybrid and enjoy it greatly. If one shops around, good deals can be found on both new and used Civic Hybrids. My local dealer sells new Hybrids for less than MSRP and when you add the ingee tax rebate, you can actually buy a hybrid for about the same as a fully loaded Civic LX.
Used Civic hybrids are not as popular as the Prius and if you are patient you can often find a used Civic Hybrid for about the same price as a used Civic LX.
We have had no problems with our hybrid. In our typical town driving we average in the low to mid 40's miles per gallon. While on the highway we average in the mid to high 40's. On a recent 1,000 trip we averaged 52.7 miles per gallon. Since owning the car, the lifetime miles per gallon is just under 47.
I have several friends with non-hybrid civics and they tell me they never get more than 35 miles per gal.
The car has always performed flawlessly. The only concern is what happens when the battery pack needs to be replaced. However, Honda does guarantee this for 8 years or 80,000 miles.
Our favorite part of this car is that the pollution out of the tailpipe is only 10% of a typical new car. I also love the fact that when you gee to a stop, the engine turns off. Not only does this reduce the pollution, it is also so quiet.
The Honda Civic Hybrid is just a cool car and we enjoy it greatly. My 14 year old son can hardly wait until he can drive it to school.Update after 70,000 milesWe now have over 70,000 miles on this car. During this time we have changed the oil, rotated the tires, and kept up on normal maintenance. The original tire were replaced at 35,000 miles and the replacement Michelin tires will be replaced within the 10,000 miles or so.During the time we have owned this car the lifetime mileage has been 46 miles per gallon. Even with 70,000 miles the car uses no oil between oil changes. Even thing works as though it were new. I have no geplaints and would still regemend it to anyone. The more I drive it the more I appreciate it when it goes into autostop mode at stop lights. It is so quiet.
