Made in Israel - Is it antique?
We have seen many sellers claim that older Judaica items, marked "Made in Israel", are "antiques." If antique is defined as an object which is 100 years old or older, then a "Made in Israel" item is by definition NOT an antique. Many sellers are unaware that the modern State of Israel was created in 1948. All objects marked "Made in Israel" were created in 1948 or later. Objects made in the Holy Land prior to 1948 were often (but not always) marked "Made in Eretz Yisrael" or "Made in Palestine" or simply "Made in Jerusalem" among other designations. True Holy Land antiques are NEVER marked "Made in Israel."
