Bagpipes? Buyer Beware!

If you are thinking about purchasing some bagpipes on okay, you need to know a couple of important things!
1. DON'T BUY ANY PIPES THAT ARE BEING OFFERED FOR AROUND $100-$200 DOLLARS! Those pipes are inferior, probably made in Pakistan, and will NOT give you desirable results. The Great Highland Bagpipes should be made of African blackwood, selected for it's hardness and durability. A quality set of pipes will cost anywhere from $1000 on up. Occasionally, you may find a good set for less, but if buying used, you must have assurance that there are no cracks anywhere. Buy used only from a reputable okayer seller.
2. Please don't buy bagpipes if you've never ever had any kind of lessons on a practice chanter first. You will NOT be able to play the pipes successfully without this important first step! All serious pipers started with only a practice chanter and lessons. Check your nearest city for a pipe band. I'll bet they give FREE lessons!
Playing the highland pipes is a major acgeplishment made possible by lots of help, encouragement, determination, and advice. If you are reading this, I trust that you are seriously looking for advice. I've seen the inferior Pakistani pipes being sold on okay - they're a pathetic imitation of the quality pipes you see being played in parades, etc. Take the time to research before you spend your money. Good luck!
