Sourcing products for s - garage sales to surplus

I think one of the most talked about subjects on okay is "where do you buy to sell on okay"?
I think the majority of okay sellers would agree that they started with things they already owned and went into buying for okay sales at a later date.
One of the best sources for buying on okay is garage and estate sales. You can hand pick your items for your okay inventory from this source. This type of buying offers a wide variety of unique items that possibly no one else has. It sets your okay business apart from others, and offers you less gepetition.
You can buy anything from antiques and collectibles to clothing, designer shoes and handbags, books, and tools at these types of sales. You can learn what is selling good on okay and go from there. You learn by doing, and that is basically the best way to learn.
I can't tell you how many times i made a decision to buy something only to find out it wasn't the hot product i thought it was. On the other hand, that works the opposite in finding items that you didn't think were worth that much to find out they are worth a lot more than you expected. This is definitely a learning experience.
You have to get up early to attend most garage and estate sales. Most estate sales involve lines and being early to get a number. The first in the door most always get the best deals.
Rule of thumb where we live is, if the garage sale starts at 7am, get there at 6:30am. Showing up early can be beneficial to get the cream of the crop. Most estate sales do not open early. But they most do hand out numbers early so you have to be there early to get your number.
It is hard to know which sales to go to first. The best rule of thumb is to make a list of your sales by neighborhood and by time. Then break them down by what they list. If you don't really sell baby clothing, avoid those for example. Or just go to those sales last. You can't be early for every sale listed, so you have to pick and chose the best areas and items listed for your first hits. The first half hour of a garage sale is the most crucial time.
Another key thing is to be fast once you get in. It is great if you can take people with you. Grab and ask questions later has always been my moto. If you aren't sure it is something you want yet you think you may want it, pick it up and walk around with it. You can always set it down later if you decide you don't want it. You don't want to spend all your time at one sale so try to look quick decide and move on to your next sale.
Another source for buying on okay is liquidators, cut price and surplus dealers. You can search the internet using those key words for clothing, shoes, handbags, or whatever you are looking for to buy for your okay sales. There are a lot of liquidators who have websites. They are fairly easy to find.
As far as clothing and fashion items, once you find a liquidator you would like to use, the cheapest way and best way to buy is by the pallet. If you buy items by the piece, the liquidator is chosing what you will get. Often times, these items are items that didn't sell well, and also sometimes you get a lot of duplicate items. Be sure to ask when you are buying by the piece if items will be duplicated. Most of the time if they say yes, avoid those lots because this will be a lot of items that are dead items and do no sell.
Buying by the pallet is a better method if you can afford to buy that way. When you buy by the pallet, you get a wider variety, the items are not picked over, and you are paying a cheaper price per item. Most pallet costs run between $2500 to $6,000 so you need to save up your garage sale profits in order to get enough ahead to buy your first pallet.
Even if you start buying surplus items, garage sales are still a good way to supplement your okay sales and offer unique items in addition to your pallet items.
I hope this review has helped get you started on a new track for your okay selling. Good Luck to all who read this.
