Peru Collectibles:Guide to Alpaca Slippersand Moccasins
We receive many questions about our alpaca footwear, and now we would like to share some of our insight about these wonderful items with you. After reviewing this guide, please feel free to browse through our Alpaca Slipper and Moccasin selections at Peru Collectibles' okay Store.
* Are the slippers 100% Alpaca?Yes. Alpaca Slipper are made from 100% alpaca fur using the hide of the alpaca to form the slipper. There is no wool or artificial fibers (i.e. acrylic) woven into the fur. The only use of wool is on the inside of the slipper, where it is used to cover the hide and provide gefort.
* Are the moccasins 100% Alpaca? No. We list our moccasins as "Sheepskin/Alpaca" specifically to avoid any confusion. The soles and body of the moccasins are made from sheepskin, while thecuff around the ankle isalpaca fur. This wool of the sheepskin provides the cushioning and warmth of the inner sole.
* What are the soles made of?The outer soles of the slippers are the hide of the alpaca, some are smooth while others are scuffed to provide traction. A few slippers have a thin vinyl cover over the outer sole; similar to that used in childrens pajama with feet.

The inner sole is the sheared fur side of the hide; ranging from to inch in thickness. Sometimes this fur is covered with soft wool to provide extra gefort, using the fur as a form of cushion. Other times the fur itself is the cushion. This fur cushioning is soft, but for some folks may not provide the support or softness they desire.
* How durable are the slippers?Being hand-craftedand made entirely of natural animal skin/fur, the slippers and moccasins are mainly intended for casual use. Extensive usecan lead to premature wear of the inner sole's naturalfur.
* Can the slippers be worn outside? The slippers and moccasins are mainly intended for indoor use. They can be used for quick trips outdoors, but should be done so infrequently and in dry weather; as to avoid premature breakdown, excessive scuffing, and overexposure of the soles to moisure.
* Do the slippers run true to size? All of the slippers are handmade, lending to some occasional deviation in the size, but not much. We always provide an inner sole measurement with our listing to assist with your decision.
* Do the slippers cover the ankles? No. The slippers gee to just under the ankle bone in most cases. Occasionally the slippers have a decorative cuff around the ankle, that MAY cover part of the ankle bone, but does not offer any type of support for the ankle/foot.
